Low Testosterone/ Andropause

Low testosterone is a silent epidemic that affects millions of men. Symptoms of low T or andropause can begin as early as the mid 20’s. Especially shift workers like police, fire fighters, paramedics, nurses, doctors, and anyone working the night shift. If you are not getting your ZZZ’s, experiencing low energy levels, or have noticed a decrease in libido, you may need a testosterone boost. Testosterone replacement therapy is not only important for male sexual function, but it can also help with increased muscle mass and strength, improved mood and reduced fatigue, as well as many other benefits.

Research has also associated low testosterone levels with heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Take back control with TRT

Treatment

Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Treatments are customized to you based on your presenting symptoms, laboratory values, and your goals.

Treatments are customized to you based on your presenting symptoms, laboratory values, and your goals.

Testosterone treatment options include either topical creams or testosterone injections. Injectable therapies are prescribed and delivered directly to your home to be self-administered, or you can choose a package that includes in-office injections.

Prior to starting therapy, testosterone treatment modalities will be fully discussed including the risks, benefits, and other potentially necessary additions such as treatments to control estrogen levels. Men will learn how to inject during their first visit. Injections are typically twice weekly in the abdominal fat (or subcutaneous tissue) and are virtually painless. Injecting testosterone in this manner allows for more precise dosing and better optimization of hormone levels throughout the week.

Follow up and routine lab work will continue throughout treatment to ensure safe levels as we work to reach your goals. Follow up visits will occur every 3 months until hormone levels are optimized and stable.

An estimated 25% of men over the age of 30 have lower than average testosterone levels. There is nothing normal about a 40 year old male having the testosterone level of a 70 year old, but modern medicine deems it “within normal range” even though he experiences a poor quality of life that can easily be improved through testosterone replacement therapy.

Over the past 20 years, testosterone levels in men have decreased by 20%-25% resulting in a myriad of symptoms. It is estimated that 1 in 4 men are experiencing lower than average T levels. It is unknown why this is occurring but researchers believe it’s secondary to the estrogenic effects of plastics and ingredients in processed foods and cosmetics. Our environment over the last couple decades has slowly decreased what makes a man, a man. The western world is slowly becoming more demasculinized

The normal total testosterone level is very broad and is between 300ng/dl to 1100ng/dl. These ranges differ between various labs and are based off population averages. So for example, a 30 year old male with a level of 350ng/dl is considered to be in the “normal range,” yet this is the average testosterone level of an 85 year old! If this 30 year old male had symptoms consistent with low testosterone, then testosterone replacement therapy could be beneficial in improving their quality of life.

Another issue with testosterone levels are that the “total” testosterone number is typically used to begin treatment in many medical establishments. We take into consideration your “free” testosterone levels. The amount of testosterone available for use in your body can be affected by proteins that bind the testosterone in your blood stream. The amount of free plus the testosterone that is bound is considered your “total” testosterone.

The amount that is unbound is considered your “free” testosterone and is what your body actually uses. Therefore, an astute clinician will look at the patients “free” testosterone, which is what we do at Vital Infusions & Performance.

During treatment, we target men’s testosterone levels to the middle-upper level of normal. This range is between 700ng/dl to 1100ng/dl. When a man has his testosterone levels brought into this optimal range, it can truly be a life changing experience if he is suffering from low T symptoms.
